GREAT NEWS

Follow us lululinartFacebook | Twitter | Instagram | Tumblr
We've been super productive and created/exhibited 10 new paintings at our first SOLO ART SHOW! Below is a panorama from our show at the Bisong Art Gallery on September 18, 2015. In all, we exhibited 19 oil paintings as part of our Fluid Dynamics series.

ART SHOW

For those we haven't told, Fluid Dynamics is a Pop Surrealist series inspired by the physical properties of liquids. In this set of works, we reinterpret concepts traditionally viewed as scientific through an artistic lens to create poetic and alluring paintings. The dream-like yet technically grounded atmosphere of their paintings humanizes these concepts and gives viewers an opportunity to escape their world and enter a new one, crafted by the artists, where the boundaries between humans and the natural world are fluid.

KICKSTARTER

Another fun project we just completed is our second successfully funded Kickstarter project, CATicatures.
A CATicature is a drawing of you, your cat, or your favorite character as a cat. You can see below for a few examples and if you're interested, you can email us with a request at photo@lululin.com.

HI GUYS!!

Just wanted to update ya'll on what I've been up to. A friend and I have been working as an art duo called Lulu Lin to produce an oil painting series called Fluid Dynamics.

The series consists of medium to large scale oil paintings inspired by the scientific properties of liquids. We already completed 6 pieces including Capillarity, Surface Tension, and Colloid. I posted a few below for ya'll to check out.

We recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the remainder of the 15 pieces we have planned. There are lots of cool prizes + process videos of our work. Please check it out and help us spread the word. Thanks!!

Ps: I know I've put Enrapture on a burner in the very, very back, but I haven't forgotten about it or my readers. My business/these paintings have been taking over my life for a while, but I am still very much invested in Enrapture. Thanks for your patience.

Oh my goodness, everything is so different @_@

I feel like an old person befuddled by this new technology of the youngsters.

Well, I wonder if anyone is still watching me? lol. Also, what is this Sta.sh thing?

I'll get to uploading some of the stuff I did this past year and writing a longer journal about what I've been up to later.

Nice to see you guys!

Hi guys!

Oni-con was awesome! It was great getting to meet some peeps!

Now that I'm no longer facing any immediate impending doom, I thought I'd offer some free chibis. I have some conditions:

:bulletorange: First five people to comment here requesting something
:bulletorange: Can be your OC or fanart, but I prefer OC.
:bulletorange: Must link reference pic
:bulletorange: These may be sketches or full color, whatever I feel like doing :3

Lastly, I'd like to let you guys know about a group I recently joined called RedlinePlease
Basically, it's a group where you can get anatomy help (not just human, but also canine, feline, etc). You upload your drawings and one of the red liners (like moi! :D) will go over it to correct the anatomy. It's a pretty useful place, especially for those of you who may be learning and practicing art on your own. Just wanted to plug them a little bit! :D

Hey guys,

So the crazy killer year is mostly over. Med school applications are done! Now I just basically have interviews and a whole lot of waiting left to do! lol

I'm still super busy with trying to get Rapture stuff to a checkpoint before Oni-con, but hey, at least I have time to draw again.

I haven't been keeping up with the devart community or all these system updates. I feel like a grandpa trying to sort through GROUPS and MURO and everything else. hahaha

Also, if you guys have time, be sure to check out my latest submission:

My partner in crime, Meg, is taking care of the writing for Rapture and helping me get things up and running. Here's a little bio on Lu from her:

:bulletorange::bulletorange::bulletorange::bulletorange::bulletorange::bulletorange:

Tallulah "Lu" Nichols never planned to spend eternity just hanging around. A wild child in life, she's stuck in death in the house Bob's renovating. Mischievious and easily bored, her chief current amusement is making life miserable for Bob. She's not sure why she's still here, or how she died, but she hopes to find out and blow this place once and for all.

Motto: Life fast, die young, leave a beautiful corpse.
Hobbies: Dancing, practical jokes.
Drink: Tequila Sunrise

ps- So what have you guys been up to? What's everyone doooooin?

Hallo everyone

Summer's been going really quickly. Right now I pretty much cycle through 5 daily activities:

1. Work
2. Study for the MCAT
3. Draw/write Rapture
4. Exercise
5. Sleep

My job is only two days a week for about 6 hours each day, but I've been doing a lot of Rapture and MCAT stuff. I don't think I've ever been this productive during the summer. haha XD

Also, I've pretty much officially "finished" filling out medical school applications. Now to sit and twiddle my thumbs....hmmmm

In other news, my friends and I went to Miyavi's concert in Houston yesterday. Definitely one of the best July 4th events I've ever attended! Miyavi always does such amazing live shows. Life's been kind of complicated and troublesome lately, and there usually isn't any time in my day when I'm not worrying about something while trying to do something else. The energy of his performance got my brain to calm down and stop running mental circles for two hours. It was really nice to see someone do what they were born to do. I've been thinking that it is so difficult (at least for some of us) to truly find that one thing that we love to do. The one thing that would be enough for our entire life, even if we had nothing else. I know I'm still looking, and I'm not sure I'll ever find it, but it is nice to know that others have.

I don't want to go into an essay journal, so I'll save that for another day. I gotta get back to studying. Good night, all~!

 Amy
First off, Art FTW books are in the mail! YAY~! I'll post some photos later so you guys can see.

Secondly, some of you might have noticed that the Brainsucker girls and I haven't been out and about on the con circuit for a few cons. I'm going through some major overhauls with my artwork and stock right now. Some of the artwork I've been selling have been around for such a long time, I just truly need to be rid of my old work. (that being said, I'll probably be putting nearly all my stuff on major discounts or giving it away as promotional freebies when I actually start advertising Rapture. So come find me at cons when I return! lol)

I really want to get Rapture in a up and running mode asap because I'm really running out of time. Going to cons is lots of fun, but always preparing for the next con takes a lot of time away from working on long-term projects, so I'm kind of laying low for a while.

I'm applying to med school this summer, which also means that I may have a very limited amount of time (senior year) left to rev up the Rapture project before the craziness of med school eats up all my time. This summer's going to be crazy busy, lol.

Hopefully, the next time I see you guys, I'll have some good things to show everyone! :3
I don't think I've posted a personal journal here for almost months. Lol. Hopefully you guys haven't all turned off my journal updates.

I'm in the last few days of cramming for the MCAT, which I am taking this Saturday. I've done approximately 2100 problems. And still 1900 left to go. hahaha. wish me luck!

Also, it seems that visual arts and biochem majors are rare to begin with, but VA and bioc majors who apply for med school are even harder to come by. What can i say, i'm just a natural weirdo.

On to the tirade!

I attended an artist's lecture yesterday, and during the Q and A session,  the artist was explaining how he doesn't feel "low brow" and "high brow" are necessarily different. He pushed the point that "it's all on the same level, they're achieving the same things," but then goes on to say, "of course, a britney spears song can't measure up to a good painting."

Now, you can't be on both sides of the snob line. Everyone knows "some things are just more equal" is bullshit, even if they don't always live by it.

Here's what really bothers me, though. Every Britney Spears song that comes out is appreciated by millions of people. Don't argue that, you know it's true. They may not go to a white walled gallery and pretend to critique it while sipping cheap wine on Saturday night, but they dance to it at their favorite club and they sing along with it in their car; it's part of their lives. Every Britney Spears song that comes out makes that connection with people. Lots of people.

And isn't that what artists try to do? Connect with people and tell a story through their art?

How can someone legitimately say that high brow and low brow are on the same level and then claim that a song with millions of listeners can't measure up to a masterful painting? It certainly shouldn't matter that the painting might be appreciated by crop of people who are more highly educated, especially since that same crop of people like to believe that art is an universal language.

When it comes down to it, I just want my art to connect with people. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm always painting for popular appeal, but creating something that is able to catch the attention of and perhaps make an emotional connection with the average person is an important accomplishment in and of itself.

What's the point of creating something that is impenetrable to 99% of the population?

Hey guys, so I've been scavenging for a way to do the finances for the Art FTW that doesn't include me putting the money into my personal account and then donating to the two organizations out of my personal account, because what that really looks like is tax fraud. Not that a broke pre-med/art student has any assets to be seized, but I'd like to keep off the big brother list for as long as I can.

One of the solutions that I've found is to do pre-orders for the book through an ebay listing and use the Ebay Giving Works program to donate the proceeds directly to the organizations and just keep the portion that I need to purchase the books. This solution has some fw problems, to which I've come with some solutions (@.@) can you guys look over this and tell me if I've completely lost my marbles while cramming for this next biochem test?

I can only donate to one organization in a listing, but I can change this at any time when the listing is active. Which means, in order to separate the proceeds equally, I'll either have to come back periodically to change the donation designation (this can get messy) or I'll have to make two listings, one for each organization, but use a small quantity (like...5 or so) in each listing, so that the funds are distributed.

Secondly, does it MATTER if the proceeds are equally distributed? like, what if I just made one listing of 100 books to donate to susan g. komen and another for artists for humanity. in the end, the susan g. komen one sells 30 copies and the artists for humanity one sells 60 copies. would anyone (especially the artists in the book) be upset with this outcome? Honestly, I don't have a problem with doing it this way.

Alright, weigh in, people. and i'm going to go back to studying.
You guys might have noticed I haven't been around as much lately, the reason being I'm currently moving on campus for college for the first time, and class registration has been really.....really....really....irritating. Everything I sign up for keep getting cancelled and I didn't have that much wiggle room to begin with. -_-;

Anyway, my point is, I'm not going to around for a little while longer. Not to worry, I'm not going to abandon the artFTW project! Sorry there always seems to be some excuse, eh?

Have a good time while I'm gone. See ya'll in a few weeks.

:bulletgreen: Confirmed Artists
:bulletred: Misc announcements

In order to not spread this project too thin, I think we will only be able to divide the profits of this project between two organizations, and after going through the responses from the artist poll, I've picked two very different charities based on the top preferences of the poll. I put a lot of thought into this, and I hope that you guys are happy with the selection.

:bulletblue: Artists for Humanity

It's clear that youth art programs are a high priority for many of our participants, so I spent some time looking for a good, financially efficient organization doing meaningful work for young artists. I think the organization Artists for Humanity is exactly what young artists need.

Link to their website: www.afhboston.com/index.html

Mission Statement: Artists For Humanity's mission is to bridge economic, racial and social divisions by providing underserved youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts.

I was impressed by this organization because they don't just teach high school students artistic skills; they also provide training on how to use that knowledge to build a career. "The starving artist" is a prolific stereotype in our society, and many young artists are pressured into other fields because they don't know how to make a living doing they love, and I think Artists for Humanity is doing good work to bridge that gap.

:bulletblue: Susan G. Komen for the Cure

The spirit of Artists for Humanity is to help individual young artists, so for the second charity, I decided to go with a cause with a much more global effect. The Susan G. Komen foundation has a great track record of spreading preventative information and funding cutting edge research for breast cancer.

Link to their website: ww5.komen.org/default.aspx

Mission Statement:The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

:bulletgreen: Confirmed Artists

This is a list of artists who have already submitted artwork, and will definitely be featured in the book. There are, however, still a few who have received special circumstances extensions and might be added to this list at a later time.

:bulletred: Misc announcements

For artists, you are free to submit your pieces as deviantions. Please send me a link via devart notes (subject "ArtFTW LINK") so that I can compile a devart collection to serve as a preview tool.

Also, there will be space in the art book for artists to include additional information such as an artist statement, some comments on the piece, thoughts on or favorite quotes about art/charity. If the charity of your choice was not one of two our project is benefiting, you can use the space to elaborate on that topic, and urge people to donate independently. I would like for everyone to submit something, and it can be short and sweet or as long as 300-400 words. This is not, required or anything, I just think it would be a nice personal touch.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure I've already covered this, but I'm just going to mention it again. I'm really sorry things seem to be running late all the time, and I know that I've gotten much slower with responding to notes and questions. There's nothing I can really do to speed up that process because my work schedule is pretty hectic and I'm also studying for the MCAT. I just want you guys to know that I'm not going to abandon the project, and that I appreciate your patience.
